Athens Torch Relay
2004 Athens, Greece
Bringing the Olympic flame to 35 cities…in 27 countries…in 36 days. Madness? No, it was the Athens 2004 Olympic Torch Relay, the first global torch relay. So how did Além do it? We spent over two years planning all phases of the relay, including organizing thousands of torchbearers, managing city task forces and planning city routes, navigating immigration and customs procedures, integrating sponsors and planning security. Finally we organized an international staff of over 100, chartered two 747s, and took the Olympic flame across every continent and countless time zones, through language barriers, ultimately bringing together cultures around the world.
