Steven McCarthy

Steven is the Chairman and Chief Executive officer of Além International Management and has been involved in the event management, global marketing, branding and development industry for more than 40 years. He has extensive Olympic experience and has personally been involved with every Olympic Games and Torch Relay since 1996, including being the Director of the Relays for Atlanta 1996; Salt Lake City 2002 and Athens in 2004 (the first ever around the world Olympic Torch Relay). He and members of the original Além team have worked on every aspect of media operations, logistics, hospitality, competition services, communications and security for OCOG’s, Federations, NOC’s, sponsors and corporations around the world and oversaw the creation of the first “best practices manual” for the IOC on Torch Relays.
With an extensive field operations and analysis background and an intimate knowledge of international relations, diplomacy and development, Steve provides discreet and unique expertise in geopolitical and social risk assessments and market activation for clients and partners around the globe, including current work in the UAE and MENAS region, the 2020 Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
Steve serves on the Advisory Board for the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado-Boulder as well as The Chancellor’s Global Ambassador’s Program and as a sponsor to the Conference on World Affairs. Steve is a graduate of The University of Colorado - Boulder. With a lifelong business and personal interest in horses, cattle, ranching and farming, Steve is working with the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital to raise money for translational medicine research and development of diagnostic and treatment protocols in oncology and sports medicine. Steve is a Trustee of the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo and Vice-Chairman of the National Western Center Authority Board in Denver, Colorado and a member of the International Livestock Forum. Steve is a dual citizen of the United States and Germany.
